The ERC Worlds of Lithium team, in collaboration with ICLAC, organized the China Powers webinar series to explore China's pivotal role in energy transitions. This series brought together leading scholars and emerging researchers from various disciplines to collectively examine the complexities shaping China's role in the emerging worlds of electromobility. The discussions focused on the Chinese Ecological Civilisation project, the global circulation of electromobility technologies, and the diverse drivers propelling electromobility in China.

First Event: China’s Ecological Civilisation
In the first event, Annah Lake Zhu (Wageningen University), Steve Harrell (University of Washington), and HUANG Ping (CUHK Shenzhen) delved into China's Ecological Civilisation. The speakers engaged with key questions such as:
What precisely constitutes Ecological Civilisation (生态文明)?
Which are the most suitable conceptual and technological tools to grasp its nuances?

Second Event: Global Circulation of Electromobility Technologies
The second event featured GONG Huiwen (Universitetet i Stavanger), Juliana González Jauregui (ICLAC, CONICET & FLACSO), and Ágnes Szunomár (Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem), focusing on China's role in the global circulation of electromobility technologies. The discussion revolved around questions such as:
How and which actors produce the global circulation of lithium-ion batteries for electromobility?
What constitutes value and chain in the lithium-ion battery chain?

Third Event: Drivers of Electromobility in Chinese Worlds
In the final event, David Tyfield (Lancaster University), Pablo Ampuero-Ruiz (Universiteit van Amsterdam), and Haley KWAN Hiu-Lap (Hong Kong University) addressed the drivers of electromobility in China. They explored the following questions:
What are the conceptualizations of work, time, and space in the worlds of electromobility?
How do technical objects and infrastructures constitute time, and what spatial considerations come into play within and through the diverse Chinese worlds of electromobility?
The China Powers webinar series provided an in-depth examination of China's role in global energy transitions and electromobility. By addressing ecological civilization, the global circulation of electromobility technologies, and the drivers behind these developments, the series offered valuable insights into the complexities and nuances of China's contributions to the future of sustainable mobility.
